Milton voters approve all warrant articles

Residents passed all 16 ballot items Thursday after town elections were postponed two days because of Tuesday’s blizzard.

Only 560 votes were cast out of approximately 2,400 registered voters in Milton. Voting took place at the Milton Assembly of God church From 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A portion of the voting also took place with absentee ballots available at the Town Clerk’s office on Tuesday. Twelve people took advantage of the opportunity on the snowy day.

The ballot held 14 positions available for vote, three of which — Selectman, Treasurer and Zoning Board of Adjustment — were contested.

Ryan Thibeault was selected to a 3-year term on the Board of Selectmen. He received 326 votes to 123 for Larry Brown and 87 for Thomas McDougall. Current Select Chair Tom Gray is stepping down.

For the 1-year term as treasurer, Pamela J. Arnold defeated Mackenzie C. Campbell 313 votes to 201.

Michael Tabory (301) and Brian McQuade (291) were both voted to the Zoning Board of Adjustment for 2-year terms. Larry Brown received 234 votes.

Robert Carrier and Dennis Wing were both elected to 3-year terms on the Budget Committee with 380 and 356 votes, respectively. No one else was on the ballot, but there were 6 write-in votes.

All other positions were uncontested.

Article 9 asked voters to authorize the Selectmen to enter into a four-year lease/purchase agreement for $115,000 for the purpose of leasing replacement portable radios for the Fire Department, and raise $30,344 for the first year’s payment. The measure passed 266-261.

The next closest margin was 72 votes (299-227) on Article 7, which asks the town to raise $14,159 to fund a proposed step plan/pay plan for the employees in the Highway, Solid Waste Dept. and Government Buildings Dept.

The town’s budget of $4,333,900 (Article 3) was approved 416-109.

The last measure, Article 16, asked residents to spend $10,000 to eradicate the invasive plant species, European Naiad, from the water bodies in town. It was overwhelmingly approved 421-130.
